Indonesian cement sales during the month of May rose at their slowest pace for 17 months as all regions outside Java and Sulawesi registered declines. Vietnam cement production rises 7.2% in 1H13

Vietnam has reported a 7.2 per cent rise in production for the first half of the year to 28.1Mt, the country’s General Statistics Office (GSO) has said. Last month, cement output increased by 21 per cent to 5.3Mt compared to the same month of the previous year, the GSO said in its monthly report on the sector. Cement imports to Nepal have increased by 15.5 per cent in the first 10 months of the year, according to data from the Trade and Export Promotion Centre. During the review period, Nepal imported NPR3.34bn compared to NPR2.89m in the same period of last year, despite seven new cement factories being established. Pakistan export earnings up in 11MFY13

During the first 11 months of fiscal FY12-3, Pakistan exported 8.013Mt of cement and earned US$524.68m, up 1.27 per cent and 17.43 per cent, respectively. These latest figures come from Pakistan’s Federal Bureau of Statistics also show that in terms of local currency, the value of exports surged by 27.51 per cent to PKR50.64bn during July 2012-May 2013. Siggenthal cement works shifts to lignite, Switzerland

Holcim’s Siggenthal cement works in Switzerland is changing over its fuel supply from anthracite to lignite. It is expected to require around 1500t per week to fuel its kiln. The lignite is supplied as pulverised coal from Europe by rail and once at the plant, it is stored in a new steel silo of 55m high and 10m diameter, constructed for the purpose by the cement producer. Two additional railway tracks have also been built.

Semen Baturaja has received a positive response from the market during its first day of trading on the Indonesian Stock Exchange (IDX). Galilei Group plans Angolan investment

The Galilei Group of Portugal plans to enter the Angolan market as part of a joint venture, its chief executive Fernando Lima told local press. Preliminary work on the Cimentos Nacionais Angola (CNA) project has begun, Mr Lima told financial daily Diário Económico, adding that the cement plant will be constructed in partnership with HeidelbergCement. Mr Lima said that construction of the 2Mta facility would begin this year and is expected to cost around US$370m.
