Vietnam cancels nine proposed cement projects

Nine proposed cement projects in Vietnam are to be cancelled by the government following calls by the Vietnam Building Materials Association to help bring cement capacity more in line with market trends. Swiss cement deliveries in the first quarter of 2013

Swiss deliveries increased slightly in the first quarter of 2013 despite harsher weather conditions, latest data from domestic cement association Cemsuisse shows. In the January-March 2013 period, domestic deliveries increased by three per cent to 821,655t compared to  798,008t in the same period of the previous year. This advance was achieved despite a colder and more prolonged winter than usual.

Nepal Cement factory limestone supplies obstructed

A cement plant in Nepal has been unable to producer clinker for over a year and a half as local residents have prevented it from extracting limestone. Arghakhanchi Cement Industry obtained a 30-year permit from the government to extract 1000tpd of limestone at Narapani, Arghakhanchi, however local residents have said the quarry has caused their water sources to dry up. South Africa sales rise by 3% in 2012

South African cement sales edged ahead 2.9 per cent in 2012 to reach 11.6Mt from 11.23Mt the year before, data from the Cement and Concrete Institute (C&CI) shows. For the final quarter of the year, sales were just over 3Mt, also representing an increase of  2.9 per cent on the same period of 2011 when fourth-quarter sales were 2.944Mt. The C&CI will be closing down at the end of April, and as such, these are the last set of statistics to be issued by the institute.

Japanese cement producer Ube Industries is to develop a limestone mine in Yamaguchi Prefecture to prepare for further expected increases in cement demand. This will be the company’s first mine development in 35 years and production is expected to start in 2017, according to a Nikkei Report. UltraTech Cement said that the company’s total production for March 2013 was 4Mt. Dispatches were 4.01Mt, the company said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange. Vietnam first-quarter cement sales rise 15% YoY

Vietnam cement producers have reported a 15 per cent YoY rise in sales in the first quarter of 2013 to 7.55Mt, the Ministry of Construction (MoC) has reported. The double-digit quarter rise comes despite a 30 per cent drop in March sales to 2Mt. Thanks to the increase in cement sales between January and March, the country’s cement inventory dropped by 45 per cent YoY to 40,000t, according ot the MoC.
