New factory begin production in Mozambique

A new 240,000tpa cement factory has started operations at the Belulane Industrial Park in the Boane district of Maputo, local newspaper Noticias, reported. The factory is reportedly an investment between Turkish and Egyptian companies and imports raw materials from Dubai to ensure monthly production of 20,000tpa. Sagar-Vicat venture to begin operations in October, India

The joint-venture cement plant between Sagar Cements of India and Vicat Group of France will begin operations in October. “The clinkerisation is expected to be completed by September end,’’ Mr Srikanth Reddy, Executive Director, Sagar Cements, told Business Line. The plant is being constructed in Gulbarga district in the Indian state of Karnataka. Phase 1 of the project has a production capacity of 2.5Mta and total capacity, including Phase 2, would be 5.5Mta by 2014, Mr Reddy added.

Iran production rises in first four months of Iranian year

Iran produced 24.44Mt of cement in the first four months of the current Iranian year (20 March - 21 July 2012), IRNA reported. According to a report by the Industries, Mines and Trade Ministry, about 6.43Mt of cement was produced during the 20 June - 21 July. Lafarge Malayan Cement (LMC) has confirmed it will raise the price of cement effective today, 1 August, due to rising manufacturing and delivery costs, which is expected to bode well for the company’s margins from next year, according to analysts. The Bolivian Institute of Cement and Concrete (IBCH) reported Tuesday that sales of cement in the country grew 7.36% in the first half of this year compared to the same period of 2011, with the department of Beni having the highest rate growth of cement demand with 85.34 per cent of the national total. Shree Cement Ltd has been fined US$72m by the Competition Commission of India (CCI), the watchdog said in a statement, making it the 12th cement company to be fined for cartel practices. Shree Cement has been fined INR3.98bn (US$72m), the equivalent of 50 per cent of its net profit for the financial years ending in 2010 and 2011, the CCI said in the statement.
