UK construction output down, recession risk

Karnataka Cabinet approves land for cement plant

The Karnataka cabinet has cleared the proposal of JK Cements to acquire additional land for setting up a cement plant. Borcim receives positive response to EIA, Turkey

The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for a proposed cement plant by Borcim Cement Manufacturing and Trading has received approval by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanism. The new works, to be situated in the Emet district of Kutahya, will produce OPC, white and Boron Activated Belite (BAB) cement. New Nigerian plant to begin production soon

Cement production at the Igumale Cement Factory in Nigeria is to commence this month, according to local press reports. The 600,000tpa cement factory situated in Benue State, is a joint venture between the state government and a Chinese partner Zhengzhou Cangxi and Commerce Development Company Ltd. The project, was initiated in 2001, is to be completed in “due course” according to Commissioner for Commerce and Industries, Hon. Terfa Atoza Ihindan. (Source: The Leadership).

Indonesia May cement sales rise 15.6%

Indonesia's cement sales rose 15.6 per cent in May from a year ago, data from PT Semen Gresik Tbk showed on Thursday.         Sales by volume in May rose 12.8 per cent month on month to 4.72Mt, according to the data. Most sales were on Java and Sumatra islands.         Sales by volume in the eastern islands of Moluccas and Papua increased 40 per cent for the second consecutive month.        

Brazil Jan-May sales rise 11.6%

Latest data on the Brazilian cement market shows that for the first five months of the current year, domestic sales were 27.6Mt, a rise of 11.6 per cent YoY. For the 12 rolling months between June 2011 and May 2012, accumulated sales reached 66.8Mt. This represents an increase of 9.7 per cent on the same period the year before (June 2010-May 2011).

VSP plans slag-based cement plant, India

Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) is planning a slag-based steel plant with a plan outlay of about INR2000 crore, Business Standard of India reports. UAE cement prices drop 3.4% in May

The average prices of several building materials groups have undergone changes during May 2012, compared with April 2012, a monthly report by the Statistics Centre Abu Dhabi (SCAD) revealed. The average prices of cement dropped by 3.4 per cent, due mainly to decreases in the price of Portland cement per tonne by 11.3 per cent and SRC by 5.9 per cent. The next largest fall was in the average price of aggregates and sand which decreased by 3.2 per cent.

Italcementi reorganises Italian cement operations

Italian cement producer Italcementi SpA announced it is to sell one of its domestic cement plants and close two other factories to reorganise its local production base on the back of lower demand.  Italy's leading cement producer said it would sell its Pontassieve factory to local cement company Colacem and will shut down two mid-sized cement-making plants by the third quarter of 2012 in order to reorganise its domestic production capacity. India’s May output rises 13.5 per cent

India's cement production in May rose 13.5% on year to 16.2Mt, the Cement Manufacturers' Association said today.     Cement output in May was 1.1% higher than 16.01Mt produced in the previous month.     Cement despatches in May rose 14.5% YoY to 16.26Mt, the association said.     Cement production during Apr-May, the first two months of 2012-13, rose 11.6% to 32.21Mt.     India's cement production in 2011-12 had increased 6.3% to 179.79Mt.
