Dangote Cement new Zambia plant facing delays

Construction of Dangote Cement’s US$500m cement plant in Masaiti District, Zambia, has suffered a setback following delays by the government in issuing a mining license. Daiwa investment bank says China's cement demand is "still far from peaking," as it expects policy loosening to accelerate construction activity, resulting in an uptrend in cement demand and prices from 2H12-13. The house says infrastructure is the largest consumer of cement (Daiwa forecasts it to account for 45%-46% of demand over 2011-13). Mai Son cement plant put into operation, Vietnam

Mai Son Cement Joint Stock Co has officially put its Mai Son cement plant into operation. The new cement plant is situated in Na Pat Hamlet, Na Bo Commune, Mai Son Dist, Son La province with design capacity of 2500tpd of clinker (1Mta of cement). The company said it will concentrate on producing three types of cement: PCB40, PCB30 and PC40.

Vietnam domestic production seen down 7.2%, Jan-May 2012

Vietnam is estimated to have produced 22.5Mt of cement in the first five months of this year, down 7.2% from a year earlier, the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO) said in its monthly report. Production in the month of May is estimated to have reached 5.5Mt, up 5.5% YoY. Colombian shipments rise 8.1% in 4M12

During the first four months of 2012, Colombia reported rises in cement production and shipments, according to the Departamento Administrativo Nacional de Estadistica (Dane). Cement production reached 3.5Mt during the period, representing an increase of 6.2% YoY while domestic shipments rose 8.1% to reach 4.4Mt, Jorge Bustamante, director of Dane, said.
