TPI Polene posted a normalised profit of THB299m for 1Q12, down 71% YoY, but a marked improvement from a loss of THB105m in 4Q11. The YoY decline was mainly due to gross margin drop from 32.3% to 18.3% due to lower cement and LDPE margins; and a 21% jump in S&A expenses. GCC Dacotah plant considers expansion, USA

The GCC Dacotah cement plant in Rapid City is considering a US$100m expansion of its main production line, according to local press reports. The upgrade would increase the plant’s production capacity by about 20 per cent while allowing it to remove two 1950s production lines that have been idle since 2008, plant manager Steve Post said. Polimeks plant construction underway, Turkmenistan

The construction of Turkish company Polimeks new 1Mta cement plant in the Lebap region, Turkmenistan is underway, Neutral Turkmenistan reported. The main technological and additional equipment is being assembled on site and construction work on the social facilities has been completed. The railway line has been laid to the factory and a highway is being built. Most raw materials such as limestone, clay, gypsum and sand will be delivered to the plant from the local quarry.  

Sibirsky Cement output rises 23% YoY Jan-Apr

Sibirsky Cement increased cement output by 23% YoY to 982,000t in January-April, according to the holding’s statement released Friday. Cement sales amounted to 978,400t in January-April, up 23.6% on the year.

Cementos Argos bond offering, Colombia

Colombia's largest cement firm, Cementos Argos raised COP700bn (US$389m) through its bond offering on May 16. The offering was 2.17 times oversubscribed, the company said in a press release. The issuance was comprised of three tranches, maturing in 6, 10 and 15 years. In April, Cemargos raised 300bn pesos through a bond issuance, with 18-month, two and three-year maturities, as part of the company's 1tn-peso bond issuance programme.

Australia-based Adelaide Brighton expects a slight improvement in sales as market challenges continue. Managing director Mark Chellew said sales of the cement products would be marginally higher in 2012 than in 2011 Demand was robust in South Australia and Western Australia due to infrastructure and mining projects, but the timing of sales to those projects would influence the company's 2012 performance, he said Adelaide Brighton made a net profit of A$148.4m in calendar 2011.
