Diamond Cement workers to resume production, Ghana

Diamond Cement Ghana Ltd (DCGL) will resume production at its Aflao plant by next week following a a three week shutdown due to power shortages. The power shortage occurred due lightening striking a transformer at the GRIDCO sub-station near Aflao during a 26 April  thunderstorm. The power shortage at the cement works has resulted in a shortfall of 120,000 (2,400,000 bags) of product to the market. Lucky Cement to receive approval for wind farm investment, Pakistan

Pakistan cement producer Lucky Cement is to set to receive approval at an extra-ordinary general meeting on 31 May for an investment in the associated company Yunus Energy Ltd which is establishing a 50MW wind power plant in Sindh. The Pakistan Banker reports that Lucky Cement plans to make an investment of PKR385m (US$4m), divided into 38.5 million ordinary shares of PKR10 each.

Brazil four-month sales rise 12.7%

Domestic cement sales in Brazil for the first four months of 2012 reached 21.7Mt, up 12.7 per cent YoY, according to data from local association, Sindicato Nacional da Indústria do Cimento. April 2012 sales reached 5.3Mt, a rise of 10.9 per cent compared to April 2011 (4.8Mt) Accumulated sales for the rolling 12 months (May 2011 to April 2012) were, 66.3Mt, representing a rise of 10.1 per cent over the same period in the previous year (May 2010 to April 2011).

EPA sends revised emissions rules for White House Review, USA

Pikalyovsky Cement reports stable production in 4M12, Russia

Russia-based producer, Pikalyovsky Cement (part of the Eurocement Group) has reported stable production results for the first four months of 2012. The company, which holds a leading position in the North-West Federal District, produced more than 464,000t of cement in the January-April 2012 period, up 1.1 per cent compared to the same period of last year. Clinker production amounted to 481,600t, representing a 9.5% YoY increase.

Addoha Group to construct Cameroon plant

Morroco's leading home builder Addoha Group will start construction of a EUR20m (US$25.9m) cement plant this month in Cameroon's economic capital Douala, the company said on Wednesday. Vietnam’s cement sales stood at 14.7Mt in the first four months of this year, fulfilling 26.8% of the whole-year target, including 4.73Mt in April. Kercim to begin production in 2013
