Leading Russian cement producer Eurocement has placed an order for more than €80m with KHD for a new cement plant to be built in Stavropol, Russia. Lafarge to set up two cement plants in Algeria – report

Lafarge will build two cement plants in Algeria in partnership with local private group Sagremac. Thanks to the two projects, the French company will be able to boost its positions on the Algerian market. The first cement plant will be built in Biskra, in the south-eastern part of Algeria, for US$400m, while the second unit will be located near Constantine, in eastern Algeria. Gresik sees 20% 1Q12 rise, aims to increase market share

In the first quarter of 2012, Semen Gresik earned IDR4.28trn (US$466m) in revenue, a 20 per cent increase from IDR3.55trn during the same period last year and hopes two new plants that are set to become operational this year will help the company regain higher market share. Spanish cement consumption slumped 31.3% YoY in the first-quarter of 2012, showing that the sector has entered a second recession that may be worse than the last with rates of unprecedented domestic decline, Spanish cement association Oficemen notes.
