China cement output rises 16.1%

China’s cement outpur rose 16.1 per cent YoY to 2.06bnt, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said on its website. The news comes despite the government tightening the property market which dampened demand to some extent, according the NDRC.

As reconstruction efforts for the Great East Japan Earthquake get underway, local producers are starting to receive a boost, the The Nikkei reports.  Cement sale in the quake-struck Tohoku region increased by 10 per cent YoY  last month. Eurocement breaks ground on new Volga project, Russia

Eurocement Group, Russia’s leading cement producer, has held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new plant in the Samara, Volga region which is part of the company’s impressive multibillion expansion programme. Cementos Lemona temporary downsizing of operations, Spain

Cementos Lemona of Spain has presented a 161-day downsizing programme for its 123 members of staff its plant in Lemona, Biscay province, Finanzas  reports. This is in light of a 40 per cent decline in production between 2007 and 2010. With the readjustments the company hopes to adapt to current market conditions. Mexican cement prices continue upward trend

Mexican cement prices in December were noted to reach one of its highest peaks and the rise has continued into the new year, according to local press reports. Mugher Cement seeks approval for exports, Ethiopia

Ethiopia’s Ministry of Industry has given approval to state-owned Mugher Cement to begin exporting to neighbouring countries as a drop in domestic demand has caused the producer to seek other markts. Euro construction output rebounds in November

European construction output rose by 0.8% in the euro area (EA17)  and by 0.4% in the EU27 in November 2011, compared with the previous month, data from the European Union’s statistics office, Eurostat, shows. Compared with November 2010, output in November 2011 increased by 0.2% in the euro area and by 0.7% in the EU27.
