PCA sees flat growth in 2010

Lower European and Asian profits at Italcementi

Italcementi’s turnover for the first nine months declined by 4.7% to €3,665.9m and the running EBITDA was down by 16.2% to €660. The trading profit fell by 25.1% to €303.4m and the interest charge rose by 19.6% to €92.8m, which after other items left the pre-tax profit 36.0% lower at €198.6m.  The net attributable profit dropped by 82.2% to just €18.5m, with minority interests claiming considerably more with €115.0m, just 2.5% less than a year ago. In a trend that suggests cement producers may be teaming up to see that prices do not come down, cement prices, pan-India, have been rising since September 2010. Argentina shipments see monthly rise

The Argentine Portland Cement Manufacturers Association (AFCP) reported that in the month of September, the Portland Cement factories shipped 933,785t, including exports, representing an increase over last August of 0.7 per cent. This figure, when compared against the values of September 2009, recorded a growth of 15.4 per cent.

Cementir Q3 2010 turnover rises 9.7% YoY

Cementir Holding closed the third quarter of 2010 with EUR 231.1m in revenues, up by 9.7% on the year. EBITDA fell by 18.6% to EUR 34.2m. The pre-tax profit went down to EUR14.1m from EUR 21.3m a year ago. Revenues came in at EUR 630.9m for January to September 2010, in line with the EUR 629.9 million for the same period of 2009. Rising costs may pinch JK Cement, India

JK Cement, which is focused on the northern Indian and Karnataka markets, has seen some investor interest over the past three months, despite a rather lacklustre performance in the September 2010 quarter.

Lafarge cement sales in Romania down by 18%

Lafarge posted an 18 per cent drop in sales on the Romanian market in the first nine months of this year, according to its quarterly report. The sales declined by 16.4 per cent in volume, while prices were down about 1.6 per cent, says the report, which doesn’t specify the actual sales. Syria is inviting investors to help revamp the state’s underperforming industrial sector but privatisation is not on the table, the industry minister said.

Holcim Ecuador expands production

Holcim Ecuador is expanding its plant in Guayaquil to increase its production capacity from 3.5Mt to 5.4Mt of cement, which is expected to be completed in late 2011. As part of the works, the company installed a German mill and two concrete silos, one of 70m for the storage of 70,000t of clinker and the other, 50m high, to store 10,000t of cement. In addition to these structures, the project includes the assembly of other equipment. At the time, the extension works are advanced by 12%.
