Indonesian cement production is projected to reach 54Mt by 2014, thanks to the expansion of some producers that are scheduled to fully operate in the next two years. Lafarge Cement’s Aberthaw Works has received a national safety award. The cement plant was chosen to receive a Certificate of Merit in the Engineering Initiatives category of the Mineral Products Association’s annual Health and Safety Awards. The awards gave recognition to an initiative which improves the safety for those working in the pre-heater tower, where raw materials are heated before entering the cement kiln.

Infrastructure conglomerate Jaiprakash Associates today reported 86.72 per cent decline in Q2 FY’11 standalone net profit to INR115.52 crore against the corresponding quarter last year. Gujarat Sidhee Cement  reported the loss for the quarter ended September 2010 has widened.  During the quarter, the loss of the company increased to INR129.24m compared with a loss of INR58.41m in the same quarter last year. Diversified conglomerate Essar Group has firmed up plans to invest over INR2000 crore to set up a new cement and ferroalloy unit in Madhya Pradesh as part of its mega investment programme in the state.
