Indian firms see October sales firm up

After a long lull, Indian cement majors such as ACC, UltraTech and Ambuja Cements saw their dispatches rise in October. UltraTech, controlled by the Aditya Birla Group, posted a 21.26% jump in dispatches at 3.42Mt production rose 18.16% to 3.47Mt. ACC and Ambuja Cements, both controlled by Holcim, posted an increase of 13.6% and 19.6%, respectively in cement dispatches. A fire ignited at a Tucson-area cement plant concerning a 10t container of asphalt. A hole developed in a container of mixing asphalt and some of the leaked asphalt became ignited, according to Katy Heiden, Northwest Fire spokeswoman. Cementos Molins profit down 26.5%, Spain

Spanish cement company Cementos Molins booked a profit of EUR 37.5m for January to September 2010, losing 26.5% YoY, the firm said yesterday. The revenue, however, surged by 18.1% YoY to EUR 595m. EBITDA were EUR 131.5m adding 5.5%. Earnings before interest and tax (EBIT), in turn, inched down by 0.2% to EUR 93.8m. Net debt rose to EUR 324.8m at end-September from EUR193.6m a year ago.

Attock Cement Pakistan Limited’s (ACPL) net earnings for the first quarter ended September 30, 2010 were PKR97m (EPS: Rs 1.12) against PKR236m (EPS: Rs 2.72) in same period last year, a decrease of 58.9 per cent YoY. The decline was mainly due to slow cement dispatches owing to devastating floods which hampered construction activities.
