Lafarge appoints new director of sustainable development

Lafarge has appointed Kareen Rispal-Bellanger director of sustainable development and public affairs. Previously, Kareen Rispal-Bellanger, 50, has occupied different governmental positions. In 2003, she was appointed deputy director in charge of European cooperation at the French Ministry of foreign affairs.

Indocement says nine-month net profit jumps 27%

PT Indocement Tunggal Perkasa said nine-month net profit rose 27 per cent. Indocement, which has a market capitalisation of US$7.56bn, reported a net profit of IDR2.383trn in the first nine months of 2010. That compared with a net profit of IDR1.868trn in the year-ago period. Revenues rose 9.2 per cent to IDR8.11trn from IDR7.42trn a year ago. Indocement is expected to post a full-year 2010 net profit of IDR3.51trn, according to the consensus in Thomson Reuters.

Sephaku Cement, which will commission two cement plants in South Africa with a total a capacity of 2.2Mta by 2012, believes its plants will be between 15 per cent and 20 per cent more efficient than existing plants in South Africa. Colombian producer Cementos Argos posted COP2.2bn (US$1.2bn) in consolidated revenues for the first nine months of 2010. Preliminary data industry data and market estimates indicate that domestic cement sales over the 12 months (August 2009-September 2010) reached 57.2Mt, representing an increase of 12 per cent versus the same period the year earlier (August 2008-September 2009).
