Azerbaijan production falls

Cement production in Azerbaijan totalled 845,600t in January-August 2010. Production has decreased by 11.1% over January-June 2009. 


Strike affects Cimangola production

Hundreds of workers completed a strike period on Monday at the Nova Cimangola works to demand better wages and the end of unwarranted dismissals.

 The strike comes at a time when the company increased its production to 1.2Mt of Portland cement.

The factory built in 1957 is constituted by shareholders with 49 per cent Ciminvest, Cimangola 40% and the African Investment Bank (BAI) 9.5%.


Cemex demolishes chimney at Medway, UK

Russia’s Sibirsky Cement output up 8% on year

Russian holding Sibirsky Cement increased cement output 8% on the year to 2.088Mt in January–August, a spokesperson for the company said Monday. In August, Sibirsky Cement produced 415,099t of cement. No comparison was provided. Cement sales amounted to 2.092Mt in January–August and 403,345t in August, the company said. Lebanon cement deliveries rise 7.5% through July??

Shipments of cement in Lebanon rose 7.5% during the first seven months of 2010 compared to the same period of 2009, according to figures released by the Bank of Lebanon (BDL). They thus totalled 3.1Mt. 
For July alone, they are down 0.4% to 517,000t delivered.
 Cement supplies have recorded a steady increase during 2010. This strong growth shows that real estate was fully developed, based on a solid base already established last year.

Lafarge Malayan 2Q falls 10% on lower revenue

Lafarge Malayan Cement Bhd’s net profit fell 10% to RM75.6 million in its second quarter ended June 30, 2010 (2QFY10) from RM84.3 million a year earlier mainly due to a 6% decline in revenue and a more than doubling of tax expense to RM16.8 million from RM7.6 million previously. Wugang to build slag recycling plant JV

China’s steel giant Wuhan Iron and steel (Wugang) plans to build a new blast furnace slag processing plant which can produce 1.2Mta of slag cement.
