Holcim Signs Venezuela deal

Holcim said Monday it and Venezuela have agreed on the terms of a compensation payment for the nationalization of Holcim’s operations in 2008. Italcementi to upgrade Rezzato plant, Italy

Italcementi has announced plans to upgrade its Rezatto plant from 2600tpd to 3000tpd and also reduce emissions by 46%.  The current two semi-dry process kilns will be replaced by a single dry-process line which will be capable of producing 1Mta. The company has received approval from the communities of Rezzato and Mazza which have always objected to the plant being expanded beyond 3000tpd (Italcementi’s initial request was to increase capacity to 4000tpd).

Botswana cement sales declining - PPC

South African cement producer PPC reported on Wednesday that its sales volumes in South Africa and Botswana were still declining, but at a slower rate than had been the case earlier in 2010, with some regions showing a modest growth in sales. Lafarge raises forecast for French cement market

Lafarge SA raised its forecast for the French cement market, and now expects it to grow by three per cent at best this year and shrink by one per cent at worst, La Lettre de L’Expansion said, without citing anyone. Lafarge last year forecast that this market would shrink by 3- 8 per cent in volume in 2010, the newsletter said.

Lafarge loses environmental clearance for planned plant

A planned cement project in Himachal Pradesh, India promoted by Lafarge, has lost its environmental clearance, after the National Environment Appellate Authority ruled that the project threatened the local agriculture-based economy and the nearby Majathal Wildlife Sanctuary. Lafarge to freeze Ukraine expansion project

Saudi Eastern Province Cement posts 1H net profit

Saudi cement producer Eastern Province Cement Company (EPC) said it booked a net profit of SAR196m (US$52.3m) for the first half of 2010, slightly down from SAR 200m a year ago. The earnings per share (EPS) stood at SAR 2.28, versus SAR 2.33. The slight decrease in the company’s bottom-line results was attributed to a rise in operating expenses.
