West China Cement Ltd posted on Thursday a net profit of CNY 362.8m (US$53.4m) for the first half of 2010, up from CNY140m a year earlier, and some 18.2% higher than the company’s projections. Brazilian producer Camargo Correa yesterday announced that it will be investing US$50m in two of its Argentinian operations, namely Loma Negra and Ferrosur. Cement producers in Vietnam are estimated to have produced 36.8Mt of cement in the first eight months of this year, the General Statistics Office said. The figure represented an on-year increase of 17.2%, the GSO said in a statement released Thursday. In August, the country’s cement output was 5.1Mt, up 16.7% YoY. Indonesia July sales up 6.6%

Cement sales in Indonesia rose 6.6 per cent to 3.74Mt in July from 3.51Mt in the same month last year. The increase in cement sales was attributed mainly to revival of the property and lower lending rates, the association of cement producers (ASI) said.
