Indocement sees Indonesia 2010 cement demand up 8%

PT Indocement Tunggal Prakasa (INTP.JK), Indonesia’s second biggest cement producer by capacity, said on Tuesday it sees the country’s cement demand rising about 8 percent to 41.5Mt. "Indocement should beat the national growth by about 2-3 per cent," Christian Kartawijaya, Indocement’s finance director, told Reuters.

Turkish firm Goltas exported nearly 650,000t of cement to African nations in 2009. Goltas, based in the southern province of Isparta, exported 860t of cement to several countries last year. Exports to Egypt, Libya, Angola, Cameroon, Nigerian and West African nations accounted for 75 per cent of total exports by the company. Sertac Bora Ozyurt, director of Goltas, said on Friday that they were ranked as the 339th biggest company of Turkey in terms of annual sales.

Turkey’s cement production increases to 24Mta

Turkey’s cement production increased to 24.23Mt in the January-May period of the year. Turkish Cement Producers’ Association said on Sunday that cement production rose 12.2 per cent to 24.23Mt from 21.6Mt in the same period last year. According to the Association, Turkey exported 28 per cent of its total production to the other countries. Turkey’s exports of cement also rose 6.2 per cent to 6.8Mt in the first five months of the year from 6.4Mt in the same period 2009.

India-based Banco Products is investing US$65m in its cement plant in Tanzania, which targets the East African market. The Indonesia Cement Association (ASI) on Thursday denounced a recommendation by the Business Supervisory Commission that it be disbanded to avoid the possibility of price-fixing. The recommendation came the day after the commission cleared eight cement producers of charges of collusion, but it said the association should be dissolved because of fears it could provide room for possible cartel practices.
