Gloria Group plans US$250-300m cement plant investment in Cusco

The Gloria Group, which controls Cementos Yura and Industrias Cachimayo, plans to build a new cement plant in Cusco, southeastern Peru, to meet the demand of an expanding market in the south of the country. In October, demand for cement in Peru reached 903,750t with exports adding a further 28,634t to the total delivery figure for the month. Local cement makers produced around 926,623t, according to Peru’s cement manufacturers’ association Asocem. Union Andina de Cementos (Unacem) – which comprises the recently merged Cementos LIma and Cementos Andino –  reported a net profit to PEN70.3m (US$27m) compared with PEN42m in the same quarter in the previous year boosted by strong sales. Shipments of cement in the Peruvian market totaled 6,098,738t from January to August 2012, 16.84 per cent more than the same period of 2011 (5,219,828t), the Association of Cement Producers (Asocem) has reported. Cementos Lima and Cementos Andino to merge, Peru

Peruvian cement producers Cementos Lima and Cemento Andino are to merge into a single company, the company’s said in a joint statement. Shareholders from both producers on Tuesday approved plans for the merger which will create a new company under the name of Union Andina de Cementos SAA on 1 October, the statement to Peru’s securities regulator said.
