Expressing its concern over increasing prices of raw material particularly cement used in construction industry, Pakistan’s Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD) has requested the Prime Minister to look into the matter and reduce prices.

Cement prices have risen by INR10/50 kg bag across India due to higher excise duty and increase in prices of raw materials. At present, cement is selling at INR265-275/bag in Mumbai, INR285-295/bag at Kolkata, and INR245-255/bag in Chennai. Pakistan prices rise on higher input costs

Pakistan cement prices in the north region of the country have increased by PKR20/bag to PKR370/bag, industry sources said Wednesday. 

This rise in prices is due to increase in SED (Special Excise Duty) from one per cent to 2.5 per cent—and partly due to higher input cost. This has endorsed the view that cement manufacturers will continue to pass on the higher input prices in 2H.

The Pakistan cement exporters union Thursday again stopped at least 1000 trucks carrying cement from Pakistan to Afghanistan and Central Asian states to record their protest against double increase in entry tax by the Afghan authorities.

Philippines: DTI to question producers on price rise

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Tuesday said it will summon cement manufacturers to explain why cement prices have gone up in the local market. 

"They have to explain... the DTI would look at why they raised prices. We’ll call a meeting with them," DTI Undersecretary Zenaida Maglaya said told reporters Tuesday.
