Cement prices in China dropped two consecutive weeks from August 15 to August 28 though the traditional peak season for cement sales in China is approaching. Ben Kien Shipbuilding Industry Co. Ltd., an affiliate of Vinashin Business Group has launched a 16,800dwt cement vessel. Cement prices in east China saw the biggest drop within an overall 0.7 percent decline last week, according to reports by Xinhua. Cement prices in Uganda are heading up on the back of higher fuel prices and the weakening shilling. The retail price of a 50kg bag of cement now costs between UGX29,500 and UGX30,000 (US$10.7) at several hardware stores such as Hardware World in Ntinda. With construction activity likely to pick up post-monsoon, Indian cement prices are expected to recover.
