Mexico sees modest rise in cement prices

The producer price index for April, published by INEGI last week, reported an increase of 0.4% in the price of cement in Mexico. Cemex, Apasco, Cruz Azul and Montezuma have raised their prices between 1-4% per month so far this year. The Paraguay Chamber of Construction (Capaco) is negotiating with Chilean businessmen to import cement from that country. Paraguay’s sole cement producer Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) will be asking the government to approve a price increase for cement. Pakistan association calls for inland freight subsidy

All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) has asked the Federal Minister for Finance, Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh to release PKR270m for inland freight subsidy. 
In a letter written to the financial head of the government, Aizaz Mansoor Sheikh, APCMA chairman, requested the finance minister (FM) intervene in the matter to provide relief to the industry, which has been incurring severe losses due to high production costs, declining exports and decreasing local demand.

Recent consumer complaints about current prices of cement in the market have displeased local market leader, Ohorongo Cement, which says contrary to the complaints, the average cement price has gone down since the opening of its cement plant at Otavi. Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Trade and Industry began this week “naming and shaming” entities selling cement above the set ministry price of SAR14 per bag (US$3.7). The ministry named the cement trading company Abdullah Bin Muhammad Bin Ibrahim Al-Atyan for selling cement at SAR19 and investigations are continuing with the owners of several other firms observed conducting the same practices.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is delaying the issue of quality certification to Pakistani cement exporters, preventing them from exporting to India, it was reported in Pakistan newspaper, The Nation.
