PCA: US cement industry records its most energy efficient year yet

The amount of energy required to produce 1t of cement decreased 1.1 per cent in 2014 from the previous year’s levels, according to PCA’s latest US Labor-Energy Input Survey. Portland and blended cement shipments in the US and Puerto Rico in the first eight months of this year reached 59.12Mt, preliminary data from the US Geological Survey shows. Of the total shipments, domestic dispatches accounted for 53.21Mt and imports represented 5.9Mt, the figures reveal. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico for the year through July totalled 50Mt, up by 3.4 per cent in the same period in 2014, latest data from the US Geological Survey shows.
