Cemex USA announces divestment in the southeastern United States

Cemex USA announced Friday that it has signed an agreement for the sale of its gypsum wallboard business based in Florida to US LBM. The proceeds obtained from this transaction, which will not be for a material amount, will be used mainly by Cemex USA’s affiliates for debt reduction and for general corporate purposes. The transaction is expected to be completed by end-2015. Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Citigroup acted as financial advisors to Cemex in this transaction.

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced a settlement with Lehigh Southwest Cement Co for failing to properly report releases of toxic chemicals at its Cupertino, California, USA. The company is required to pay a US$47,600 penalty and spend US$144,250 to fund projects that support local emergency response and limit future releases from the plant. Keystone Cement Co, based in Bath, PA, has agreed to pay nearly US$200,000 for violating air quality standards over a four-year period, the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) said. US seven-month shipment update

Shipments of Portland and blended cement in the US and Puerto Rico totalled 50.038Mt in the first seven months of the year, preliminary data from the US Geological Survey (USGS) shows. Imports accounted for 5Mt of the total. In July 2015, shipments reached 9.257Mt, with imports representing 935,779t of dispatches. Clinker production, meanwhile, is reported to be 42.282Mt for the seven month period, with output at 6.965Mt in July alone.

Mitsubishi Materials plans to bolster US business

Mitsubishi Materials plans to invest as much as JPY3bn-4bn (US$24.9m-33.2m) to bolster its US business, according to reports in the Nikkei Asian Review.
