Vulcan Materials sees good volume growth in most markets

Buzzi Unicem's first-quarter turnover increased by 3.4 per cent to EUR513.39m and the EBITDA went from a EUR10.26m to EUR27.15m. The loss at the trading level was reduced by 48.6 per cent to EUR19.24m. Net financial charges increased by 31.3 per cent to EUR43.01m giving a seasonal pre-tax loss 24.5 per cent lower at EUR46.16m. MagneGas® fuel order placed for Florida cement works, USA

MagneGas Corporation announced today that a major cement company in the US has approved MagneGas® fuel to replace acetylene and has placed its first order for a location in Florida. Votorantim Cementos has announced a US$1600m investment programme that involves five new cement plants in Brazil, two in Turkey and one in Bolivia as well a the expansion and modernisation of a number of existing facilities. These investments cover the 2015 to 2018 period. These projects will add 6Mta of  capacity in Brazil and 2.5Mt elsewhere. Longer-term, additional capacities are also being considered for the USA and  Morocco.

Italcementi’s North American arm, Essroc, has agreed to acquire Holcim’s slag cement grinding centre in Camden, New Jersey, and the cement terminal at Everett, Massachusetts. The proposed disposal is subject to the Holcim purchase of Lafarge going ahead. The Camden grinding centre has a capacity in excess of 0.5Mta.

The Indian competition authorities have approved the Holcim Lafarge merger, subject to the disposal of one integrated works and one grinding centre in the east of the country, representing a capacity of around 5Mta.
