Cementos Argos has reported consolidated cement volumes of 4.04Mt in 4Q17, up 17.6 per cent compared to the same period last year. This takes the full-year volume to 16.275Mt, an increase of 16.5 per cent YoY. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the USA and Puerto Rico rose 4.2 per cent YoY to 8.2Mt in November 2017, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Cemex Inc has agreed to acquire an additional 12.25 per cent stake in Lehigh White Cement Company, a manufacturer of white cement, from Lehigh Cement Company LLC for US$34m. Lehigh White's enterprise value of the transaction is about US$140m. HeidelbergCement announces that its subsidiary Lehigh Cement Company LLC has signed an agreement to sell its 51 per cent position in Lehigh White Cement Company to the minority shareholders Aalborg Cement Company Inc and Cemex Inc. Martin Marietta Materials saw turnover advance by 3.8 per cent in 2017 to US$3965.6m and EBITDA was 3.4 per cent ahead at US$1004.4m, with the final quarter showing a 14.2 per cent advance. Argos reported an improvement in its revenues for 4Q17 with stable sales for the full-year 2017. Eagle Materials reported a 19 per cent YoY rise in revenues to US$359.4m for the third quarter ended 31 December 2017. Cement sales in the US increased modestly in 2017 with a value of around US$12.4bn and an apparent consumption of 96.8Mt, up from 94.2Mt in 2016, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Argos USA LLC, a subsidiary of Cementos Argos SA, has sold 13 block manufacturing plants and a construction materials warehouse to Best Block LLC, a subsidiary of Quikcrete. The deal is reportedly worth US$50m. All the assets in question are located in Florida and Georgia and form part of the cement and concrete package acquired by Argos from Vulcan Materials in 2014.
