Pakistan has resumed exports of bulk clinker after a gap of over six years. This has been achieved by the start-up of Pakistan's International Bulk Terminal Ltd (PIBTL) at Port Qasim, devaluation of Pakistan’s currency by about 10 per cent and expansion in capacity as well overseas demand.
According to local media, bulk clinker exports will resume as one of the leading south-based cement manufacturers has received export orders from west African countries and Kenya. It is reported that Attock Cement will export 150,000t of clinker from PIBTL, where a ship carrying clinker is due to sail next week.
Similarly, an unidentified southern cement producer is also in the process of finalising clinker exports. According to PIBTL, the mv Maritime Setoshio is expected to sail with export quantity of 45,000t of clinker on 4 April. The vessel is presently loading its cargo of clinker.
