According to Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), Bangladesh's cement industry has earned US$2.37m during July-September 2019 (1QFY19-20) compared to US$3.17m earned in same period last year. This translates a fall of 25.2 per cent YoY basis. The export figure also includes a minor amount of salt, stone and related products.
The export value for cement fell 5.2 per cent below the target of US$2.5m, set by the government for first three months of FY19-20.
The EPB has set an export target for cement industry at US$10.5m for FY19-20 compared to US$14m for the previous fiscal year. Actual export proceedings in FY18-19 stood at U $10.41m. Therefore, the new target has been revised downward by 25 per cent, due to continuously growing domestic demand and increasing competition.
Cement is reportedly being exported by Bangladeshi cement producers to India, Myanmar, Nepal, Maldives and Sri Lanka.
