Algeria's Minister of Industry and Mines has set a 6Mt target for the cement industry to export in 2020. The country only began cement exports in 2017.
Mr Djamila Tamazirt, Minister of Industry and Mines, said Algeria had reached a production capacity of around 32Mta during 2017 and is expected to exceed 40Mt in 2020, once several plants come online. In this respect the industry minister has established a "special action plant to facilitate the export of production surplus and engage a reflection on possible usages of this material," Mr Tamazirt added.
Algeria currently has 17 cement plants in operation, according to Algerie Press service.
