Cement sales in Brazil edged up 1.1 per cent YoY to 5.864Mt in August 2021, according to SNIC, the country’s cement association. However, when considering the number of days worked, domestic sales slipped by one per cent in August 2021. Puerto Rican cement sales drop 10%

Cement sales in Puerto Rico decreased 9.6 per cent YoY to 51,165t (or 1.26m bags), the third-consecutive YoY fall, according to the Bank of Economic Development (BDE). Cement sales had been increasing since May 2020 following the end of lockdown, peaking at 1.6m in June 2020, which represented the highest sales since 2012. By the end of the year, sales had advanced 2.8 per cent when compared with 2019.

US and Puerto Rican Portland and blended cement market remains stable in June

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement, including imports, in the USA and Puerto Rico remained stable at 10.1Mt in June 2021, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Morocco’s cement deliveries expand 31% in August

Cement deliveries by Moroccan cement producers Asment Temara, Ciments de l’Atlas, Ciments du Maroc and LafargeHolcim Maroc advanced 31.1 per cent YoY to 1,132,899t from 864,441t in August 2020, according to Ipsos data published by the country’s Ministry for Housing and Urbanisation. In the first eight months of 2021 deliveries were up 19.3 per cent to 8,841,024t from 7,411,847t in the January-August 2020 period.

Chilean cement deliveries up 56% in July

Cement dispatches in Chile advanced 55.5 per cent YoY to 361,956t in July 2021 from a low base of 233,186t in July 2020, according to the Camara Chilena de Construcción (CChC). In July 2019 cement dispatches reached 317,626t. In the first seven months of 2021 an increase of 24.5 per cent to 2,507,802t was reported. This compares favourably with the 2,014,574t in the January-July 2020 period. In the 7M19 cement dispatches were at 2,382,831t.

Argentina sees 18% demand increase in August

In August 2021 the Argentine market expanded by 18.2 per cent YoY to 1,083,914t from 917,233t in August 2020 while MoM there was a 3.9 per cent improvement in offtake, according to the Asociación de Fabricantes de Cemento Portland (AFCP). The Colombian cement market expanded by 3.6 per cent to 1.132Mt in July 2021 when compared with dispatches of 1.093Mt in July 2020 and by 7.5 per cent when compared with 1.113Mt in July 2019, according to the country’s statistics office, DANE. Bolivia’s cement market sees 26% expansion in June

Cement consumption in Bolivia increased 25.6 per cent YoY to 289,440t in June 2021 from 230,378t in June 2020, according to data from the country’s statistics office, INE. However, when compared with June 2019, when demand reached 330,612t, a 30.3 per cent contraction was reported. Domestic cement production increased 25.5 per cent YoY to 299,517t in June 2021 from 238,640t in June 2020. However, when compared with an output of 339,171t in June 2019, a 29.6 per cent contraction was reported.

Cement sales in Vietnam in July 2021 declined eight per cent YoY to 4,964,884t and by 19 per cent from 6,095,139t in June 2021, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Cement consumption in Kenya advanced 26.6 per cent YoY to 3.35Mt in the January-May 2021 period when compared with 2.64Mt in the 5M20, according to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics. The increase was supported by ongoing infrastructure projects such as the Nairobi Expressway and higher activity in the real estate market.
