Chile’s cement demand increases 12% in March

Chilean cement consumption saw a 12 per cent YoY hike to 385,276t in March 2021 when compared with March 2020, when demand reached 344,098t, according to the Chilean Chamber of Construction (CChC). When compared with February 2021, consumption edged up by 9.5 per cent. In the first quarter of 2021 demand was up 7.5 per cent to 1.083Mt, compared with 1.008Mt in the 1Q20, which had seen a 6.7 per cent drop vs 1Q19.

Cement dispatches from Peru in April surged to 0.985Mt in April 2021 from a low base of 0.011Mt in April 2020 when the country was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Cement deliveries by Moroccan cement producers Asment Temara, Ciments de l’Atlas, Ciments du Maroc and LafargeHolcim Maroc increased by 111.6 per cent YoY to 1.169Mt in April 2021, according to the national cement association, APC. Iran’s cement market contracted by 24 per cent YoY to 4.5Mt in April 2021, according to the Iranian Cement Association. In April 2020 the country’s demand reached 5.91Mt. Cement sales in Puerto Rico reached 66,941t in March 2021, according to the Puerto Rican Institute of Statistics. This represents a 15.9 per cent MoM increase and the highest since June 2020. When compared with March 2020, sales nearly tripled. Brazilian cement sales surged 26.5 per cent YoY to 5.3Mt in April, according to the domestic cement association, SNIC. Bolivia’s cement consumption slipped 13.3 per cent from 262,895t in February 2020 to 228,018t in February 2021, according to the country’s statistics office, INE. Cement sales in Colombia increased 60.7 per cent to 1.189Mt in March 2021 from 0.74Mt in March 2020, according to DANE, the country’s statistics office. Portland cement production in the Dominican Republic increased 23.8 per cent YoY to 1,247,386t in the first quarter of 2021, according to the Asociación Dominicana de Productores de Cemento de Portland (ADOCEM).
