Iranian cement sales down in July

Iran’s cement market contracted by 30.8 per cent MoM to 4Mt in July 2021 from 5.78Mt in June 2021. Clinker production declined from 6.75Mt in June 2021 to 3.95Mt in July 2021 while cement output decreased to 4.38Mt in July from 6.02Mt in June. In addition to a shrinking domestic market, exports of cement and clinker in July fell to 0.41Mt and 0.3Mt, respectively when compared with the previous month, when cement and clinker exports stood at 0.36Mt and 0.63Mt, respectively.

Morocco’s cement market slips 16% in July

Cement sales in Morocco declined 16.3 per cent YoY  to 898,429t in July 2021 from 1,073,680t in July 2020, according to the Ministry of Housing and Urbanisation, which cites data from the country’s cement association, APC. However, in the January-July 2021 period, sales advanced 17.7 per cent to 7.708Mt when compared with the 6.547Mt in the 7M20.

Brazil's cement market expansion decelerates in July

Cement sales in Brazil remained almost level in July 2021 at 5.9Mt, representing a 0.1 per cent YoY increase from 5.897Mt in July 2020, according to SNIC, the industry’s professional body. All regional markets, except for the South, showed small to moderate contractions. Chile’s cement market expands 67% YoY in June 2021

Chilean cement consumption advanced 66.7 per cent YoY in June 2021 to 355,851t when compared with the 233,186t reported in June 2020 and by 21.9 per cent when compared with June 2019, according to the Chilean Construction Chamber, CChC. In the January-June 2021 period, dispatches were up 20.5 per cent YoY to 2,145,846t from 1,781,388t in the 1H20. When compared with the first six months of 2019, when dispatches reached 2,065,205t there was a 3.9 advance.

Argentina’s cement consumption increased 20.9 per cent YoY and 8.5 per cent MoM to 1,043,388Mt in July 2021 from 862,675t in July 2020 and from 961,512t in June 2021, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. Cement consumption in Colombia reached 1.072Mt in June 2021, up 18.4 per cent when compared with 0.905Mt in June 2021 and by 9.5 per cent per cent when compared with 0.979Mt reported in June 2019, according to DANE, the country’s statistics office. Bolivian cement demand advanced 125 per cent to 295,026t in May 2021 when compared with the low base of 131,101t in May 2020, according to Bolivia’s statistics office, INE. When compared with May 2020, it contracted by 6.4 per cent from 309,393t in May 2019. Puerto Rico sees first fall in sales since April 2020

In June 2021, 1.3m bags, or 55,429t of cement were sold in Puerto Rico, according to the Banco de Desarrollo Económico.  This represents a YoY decline of 18.8 per cent from 68,220t, the first drop in sales since April last year. FY21 ended with a 31.7 per cent advance in sales from 12.4m bags, or 528,707t, to 16.3m bags, or 694,994.51m. The growth in sales is the highest in 12 years, according to Sin Comillas.

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the USA and Puerto Rico advanced 5.6 per cent to 9.2Mt in May 2021 when compared with May 2020, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The Senegalese cement market expanded by 158.7 per cent in April 2021, according to the Agence Nationale de la Statistique et de la Demographie. However, domestic output declined by 9.9 per cent while export sales slipped by 3.5 per cent YoY in April 2021.
