Taj Cement Authority’s plans to build a new cement plant in Sonapur, Assam, India, was met by violent protests from local residents over concerns regarding the environmental impact of the plant on the local area. According to Indian Today, activists argue that the INR3420m (US$41m) project will cause irreversible damage to the local ecosystem, impacting not only the biodiversity of the area, which is known for its lush landscapes, and human health.

Cemenco connects to LEC grid

Liberian-based cement producer Cemenco has been connected to the Liberia Electricity Corp (LEC) grid, making it the public utility company’s largest customer, reports Energy Capital Power. Peru-based Cementos Pacasmayo SA reported a 7.2 per cent decline in cement, concrete and prefabricated product sales in the first quarter of 2024 to 685,700t from 738,600t in the 1Q23. Net sales slipped by 0.7 per cent to PEN476.5m in the 1Q24 from PEN480m in the year-ago period. Cimpor subsidiary invests EUR11.5m in new bag line

Sacopor, part of Cimpor , is investing EUR11.5m in a new bag production line. The new line will increase the company's annual bag output from 130m to 160m. Caribbean Cement uses counterfeit cigarettes as RDF

Caribbean Cement Co Ltd has destroyed an estimated JMD400m (US$2.57m) worth of counterfeit cigarettes in its cement kiln, in collaboration with the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
