Pakistan reported a rise in dispatches last month led by gains in export volumes but domestic sales were subdued. Pakistan has reported flat growth in export sales in terms of volume for the first eight months of fiscal 2012-13, but a strong advance has been reported in terms of value thanks to improvements in the price per tonne of cement. Vietnam Cement Industry Corp (Vicem) has reported a rise in overall cement and clinker sales for the first two months of the year but export volumes declined. The country’s largest cement group sold 2.88Mt of cement and clinker in the first two months of the year, up by 30 per cent from a year earlier. Egypt’s Ministry of Industry and Foreign Trade Eng Hatem Saleh has said that the ministry is considering imposing a levy on cement exports as a result of increases in cement prices on the local market. Pakistan sales increased 3.2 per cent over the first eight months over the current fiscal, according to initial data released by the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA). Pakistan exports during the first seven months of the current fiscal year (FY12-13) fell 0.52 per cent to 5.076Mt, according to data released by Pakistan’s Federal Bureau of Statistics. Pakistan’s domestic consumption continues to uphold sales with latest industry data for January show another decline in exports.
