Indonesian cement sales in October 2013 increased 7.9 per cent (YoY) to 5.58Mt, according to data from the Indonesia Cement Association (ASI). Therefore, cement sales picked up further from the 5.3 per cent growth (YoY) in the previous month. The October growth rate was mainly caused by increased cement demand from islands other than Java. PT Semen Indonesia plans to spend up to IDR6trn (US$516.4m) on capital expenditure in 2014, up from this year's IDR3trn, which will be used to build a greenfield cement factory. PT Semen Papua set to begin construction of new factory, Indonesia

PT Semen Papua is due to start construction of Papua’s first cement factory, which will be constructed in the Paumako port area of East Mimika. The company, which is owned by the Papua provincial administration, will start construction of the new 0.5Mta plant this year, Adolf Haley, head of the regional development planning board, told ANTARA news. Analysis of the Environmental Impact Assessment have been signed by Papua Governor, Lukas Enembe, he said.

Semen Indonesia has announced that its sales increased to 18.5Mt in the first nine months of the year, 15.6 per cent higher than the same period of last year including a notable rise in exports. Indonesian sales growth has slowed over the first nine months of this year despite hitting a monthly record in September. State-owned cement producer PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk has secured a US$100m loan from PT Bank Mandiri Persero Tbk and Standard Chartered Bank with a 5-8 year tenure to refinance its outstanding debt, said CEO Dwi Soetjipto in Bisnis Indonesia. SCG outlines Indonesian plant spend

Thailand-based Siam Cement Group (SCG) is expanding its southeast Asian presence by constructing a new cement plant on the island of West Java, Indonesia, through its subsidiary PT Semen Jawa. “The total investment for this factory is IDR3.4trn [US$304.7m],” SCG CEO Kan Trakulhoon told local press on Monday. The greenfield facility will have a capacity of 1.8Mta.
