Taiwan's producers see largely positive results in May

Taiwan’s Hsing Ta Cement has posted an 11.3 per cent YoY decline in revenue to TWD627.35m (US$22.65m) in May, compared to TWD706.92m in the year-ago period. However, in January-May 2021 revenue advanced 21.2 per cent to TWD3.21bn from TWD2.64bn in the 5M20. Elsewhere, Universal Cement posted a 32.4 per cent rise in revenue to TWD533.8m from TWD403m in May 2020. Argentina's cement market expands 35% YoY in May

Cement consumption in Argentina declined 7.8 per cent MoM to 874,187t in May 2021 but surged 34.8 per cent YoY from 648,543t in May 2020, according to AFCP, the national cement association. Market demand was entirely supplied by domestic cement plants, which produced 884,204t of cement in May 2021. Cement sales stabilise in South Africa in the 3Q20

Sales of cementitious products in South Africa edged up 0.3 per cent in the third quarter of 2020 to 3,457,438t when compared with 3,447,822t in the 3Q19, according to Levitt Kirson Business Services Pty Ltd. This followed a 42.5 per cent YoY drop in the 2Q20, when dispatches declined to 1,877,298t from 3,264,718t in the 2Q19. Kazakhstan’s Steppe Cement has posted a net profit of US$11.1m for 2020, up 14.4 per cent YoY from US$9.7m in the previous year. EBITDA also saw a modest increase to US$24.2m from US$23.9m in 2019. Colombia’s grey cement market expanded by 333.5 per cent in April 2021 as demand reached 1.051Mt, according to the country’s statistics agency, DANE. In April 2020 consumption fell to 242,400t as demand contracted sharply due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Total shipments for Portland and blended cement, including imports in the USA and Puerto Rico advanced 16 per cent YoY to 9Mt in March 2021, reports the US Geological Survey (USGS). A total of 45 per cent of deliveries was supplied to the leading cement-consuming states – Texas, California, Floria, Georgia and Arizona. Iran’s largest cement line at Abyek Cement Complex was put into operation on Tuesday, according to the Tehran Times.
