Cemex confirms decision to close Ferriby plant

Following consultations with employee representatives and Unite the Union, Cemex has confirmed that it will be mothballing its South Ferriby plant in north Lincolnshire, UK. In the first half of 2020 Siberian Cement (Sibcem) produced 2.2Mt of cement, representing a four per cent YoY increase. While cement demand in Peru rebounded in June 2020 to 678,000t when compared with 298,000t sold in May 2020, it remained 26.1 per cent below demand reported in June 2019 as the impact of the coronavirus pandemic continue to be felt, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Rwanda's Prime Cement set to begin operations

A new cement plant under construction in Musanze, Rwanda, is set to begin marketing its product next month. Prime Cement Ltd is expected to begin production at around 50,000tpm or 600,000tpa of cement. "Preparations are on high gear. Mozambique's Minister of Industry and Trade, Carlos Mesquita, has visited the site of the new 1.8Mta Dugong Cimentos plant in Matutuine, noting that when commissioned it should lead to a downward pressure on prices, according to All Africa. Scotiabank forecasts a recovery in Peruvian cement consumption with 3Q demand expected to be close to 2Mt, double the demand reported in 2Q. Lafarge Cement Zimbabwe saw its profit for 2019 rise to US$178m, while volumes remained flat YoY at 323,000t. Gross profit increased 251 per cent to US$496m from US$141m in 2018. Nigeria’s BUA Cement has announced that it is planning to establish a 3Mta cement facility and 50MW power plant in the Guyuk and Lamurde areas of Adamawa state.
