Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the USA and Puerto Rico advanced 13 per cent in September 2019 to 9.4Mt, when compared with September 2018, according to the latest data from the US Geological Survey (USGS). CRH reportedly in talks to sell stake in Indian joint venture

CRH is reportedly in talks to exit its joint venture with India’s My Home Group, according to VC Circle. In 2008, CRH acquired the 50 per cent stake in My Home Industries for around US$450m and the deal would see this returned to the Indian group. My Home Industries operates across four locations in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Telangana, with a total cement capacity of 9.6Mta. The company is a market leader in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana under its flagship brand of Maha Cement.

Vietnam exported 3.58Mt of cement in October at a value of US$141.62m, representing an increase of 24.9 per cent and 17 per cent YoY, respectively, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs. Cement sales in Brazil increased 3.9 per cent YoY in November to 4.7Mt, according to SNIC, the country’s cement association. US-based NuCycle Energy has launched a facility in Plant City, Florida, to make alternative fuels, primarily as a coal substitute, exclusively for Cemex. The plant, which came online in April, is now fully operational and ramping up to process 150,000tpa of post-industrial materials, primarily process and packaging residuals.
