ACC (LafargeHolcim group) has appointed Sridhar Balakrishnan as its new managing director and chief executive officer for five years effective from 21 February 2020. Cemex has announced a new Climate Action Strategy to outline the company's vision to advance towards a carbon-neutral economy and to address society's increasing demands more efficiently. Heavy rains impact Brazil's January cement sales performance

Cement sales in Brazil during January 2020 fell by 0.9 per cent YoY to 4.5Mt as heavy rains in the north and southeast impaired performance, the National Union of the Cement Industry (SNIC) has said. When based on the number of working days, domestic sales were also down by 0.9 per cent compared to January 2018. The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has awarded the Mineral Products Association (MPA) GBP6.02m (EUR7.24m)  for ground-breaking demonstrations of hydrogen and plasma technology to reduce CO 2 from cement and lime production. Cement and clinker demand in Vietnam is expected to edge up by 4-5 per cent in 2020, according to the country's Ministry of Construction (MoC). Cementos Argos' Rioclaro plant has started its new 0.45Mta calcined clay production line involving an investement of US$78m investment for the manufacture and distribution of green cement. HeidelbergCement has announced a 4.3 per cent YoY increase in group revenue to EUR18.851bn in its preliminary results for 2019. On a like-for-like (LfL) basis, the rise moderated to 2.1 per cent YoY. The result from current operations advanced 8.8 per cent YoY to EUR2.186bn, or 4.5 per cent growth LfL. However, the company’s cement and clinker sales volumes fell 3.1 per cent in 2019 to 125.9Mt.
