Savannah Cement is currently undertaken a KES5bn expansion of its grinding plant at Kitengela, Kenya, according to the company’s MD, Ronald Ndegwa. India’s Dalmia Cement (Bharat) has received approval from National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) Mumbai regarding its offer to save Murli Industries from liquidation. However, the assembly has outlined certain conditions for the deal. Kazakhstan’s Steppe Cement has sold 780,315t of cement in the first half of 2019, an increase of six per cent YoY from 738,228t in the year-ago period. The revenue from the sale of cement has surged 34 per cent to KZT14bn (US$36.6m) from KZT10.5bn. Egypt's El Nahda Cement has decided to partially suspend the main line at its 5500tpd Qena plant for nearly six months. The actions come as a result of a decrease in sales and an increase in clinker stocks, representing stagnant assets if not exploited, according to local media sources. Cement deliveries in Switzerland declined 3.6 per cent in the 2Q19 when compared to the 2Q18, according to Cemsuisse, the Swiss cement association. Sales in the April-June quarter 2019 came in at 1.176Mt. In the 2Q18 cement sales reached 1.22Mt. In the first quarter sales increased 4.8 per cent YoY to 0.874Mt and when compared with the 1H18, total cement sales in the first half of 2019 have slipped by 0.2 per cent.

Blended and Portland cement shipments in the USA and Puerto Rico advanced 5.9 per cent to 8.7Mt in April 2019, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The largest US markets were Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Georgia, which accounted for a combined share of 42 per cent of such shipments. The Argentine cement market contracted by 11.4 per cent YoY to 860,631Mt in June, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. The domestic demand was entirely met by Argentina’s cement producers, who produced 863,924t of cement during the month.
