UltraTech Cement receives approval for 6Mta plant project

India’s UltraTech Cement has received environmental approval to set up a INR25bn (US$360.37m) project in Petnikota village, Andhra Pradesh. The integrated facility is expected to have a clinker capacity of 4Mta and 6Mta of cement. Cyprus-based Vassiliko Cement has reported a 17 per cent rise in cement sales to the domestic market in 2018. However, total income fell 4.4 per cent YoY to EUR97.9m from EUR102.4m. Cement production at the plant of Nepal-based Rhiddhisiddhi Cement Industry has started. During the start-up phase, the company willl produce 20,000 bags/day of cement, which will then be ramped up to 60,000t/day. Brazil's Votorantim Cimentos has reported a 5.5 per cent YoY rise in net revenue to BRL2524m (US$654.5m) for the first quarter of 2019. Argentina’s cement consumption advanced 4.3 per cent YoY to 964,762t in May 2019 from 924,211t in May 2018, according to the latest data by the country’s cement association, AFCP. Holcim Philippines has reported a 5.8 per cent YoY decrease in revenue to PHP8.1bn (U$156.28m) for the first quarter of 2019. Apparent cement consumption in El Salvador has increased by 28 per cent in the January-November 2018 period to 27,314,750 bags of 42.5kg, or 1,160,877t, when compared with 21,802,300 bags or 926,598t in the 11M17, according to the country’s construction chamber, CASALCO. Armenia's parliament has approved a 14,000/t duty to be set on imported cement from Iran. A total of 85 law makers voted in favour of the duty with 16 voting against and three abstaining. Lafarge Malaysia successfully reduced its net loss to MYR32.07m (US$7.64m) in the 1Q19, compared with MYR68.73m of the year-ago period.
