Cahya Mata Sarawak sees decline in 1H19 net profit

Malaysia's Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd (CMS) recorded a 54.9 per cent decline in net profit to MYR41.33m (US$9.79m) for the 2Q19, compared with MYR91.63m in the year-ago period. Vassiliko Cement sees 9% increase in total income

Cyprus’ Vassiliko Cement has seen an 8.9 per cent YoY increase in total income to EUR53.99 for the first six months of 2019, compared with EUR49.6m in the year-ago period. Profit after tax advanced 13.5 per cent to EUR10.1m from EUR8.9m in the 1H18. The company expects to exceed the previous year’s total income of EUR97.9m in the full-year period.

Romania's competition authority is to analyse LafargeHolcim's acquisition of Romanian precast concrete producer Somaco. The overall output of large-scale manufacturing industries (LSMIs) decreased by 3.6 per cent for July 2018-June 2019 compared to the year-ago period, according to the Pakistan Federal Bureau of Statistics. CRH reported that group sales in 1H19 amounted to EUR13.2bn, up 11 per cent when compared with 1H18. EBITDA was 36 per cent ahead of 1H18 and the EBITDA margin rose by 11.7 per cent. Iraq approves investment to reconstruct Kufa cement plant

Iraq’s Finance Ministry has approved a US$60m investment to reconstruct a government-owned cement plant in the south-central Najaf governorate, according to Zawya. Work on the rehabilitation and rebuilding of the Kufa cement plant is expected to begin once the funds are released within the next few days. Cement dispatches by Vietnamese producers surged by 30 per cent YoY to 8.08Mt in July, according to data by the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Cement sales in the Dominican Republic increased 5.2 per cent YoY in the January-June 2019 period, according to the country’s cement association, Adocem. Peru’s cement consumption increased 9.1 per cent YoY to 983,000t in July 2019 when compared with the previous-year’s equivalent month, which saw demand at 901,000t, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Tanzania’s Tanga Cement reported a 25 per cent YoY increase in revenue to TZS215bn (US$93.56m) for 2018, up from TZS172bn in the previous year. Gross profit rose 91 per cent to TZS56.2bn from TZS29.4bn.
