VICEM targets further growth in 2019

Vietnam Cement industry Corp (VICEM) has reported a 10 per cent YoY increase in revenue to VND37trn (US$1.59bn) for 2018. The company also saw an 11 per cent rise in pretax profit to VND2.8trn. VICEM expects to push this even further by reaching a revenue of VND40trn in 2019. According to Bùi Hồng Minh, general director of VICEM, pretax profit is expected to hit VND3.2trn in the year ahead. Chengdu Design & Research Institute of Building Materials Industry, wholly-owned subsidiary of Sinoma International Engineering, has signed an EPC contract to deliver a clinker production line for Iraqi Cement. Cement consumption in Vietnam remained largely stable in November 2018 when compared with the previous year at 5.675Mt, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Reports of a major kiln break at McInnis Cement’s Port-Daniel plant have indicated that the plant will see a production stop of 6-7 weeks. Afghanistan's government has taken back control of the Ghori Cement Factory. The Afghan Investment Co that was running the plant was held in violation of the law and decisions of the high economic council and the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MOMP) has ordered the company to hand over the plant. GICA to commission new Sigus plant in March 2019

Construction of the new Sigus integrated cement plant in Oum El Bouaghi province, Algeria, is 87 per cent complete, according to Sofiane Bensaci, Finance Director of the company. With a production capacity of 2.2Mta, the Sigus plant will employ 150 direct jobs and 2000 indirect jobs, and commence production in March 2019. Total investment in the plant, which is part of the state-owned Groupe Industriel des Ciments d’Algerie (GICA), is DZD51bn (USD429m).
