Brazil’s cement sales up 2% in November

Cement sales in the Brazilian market between January and November 2018 totalled 48.7Mt, representing a 1.2 per cent fall YoY, according to the National Union of the Cement Industry (SNIC). Apparent consumption of cement, which includes domestic sales plus imports, slipped 1.5 per cent YoY to 49Mt. Azerbaijan hits record high in cement production

Azerbaijan has produced over 3.2Mta of cement in the first 11 months of the year, a record amount in the entire history of building materials in the country, according to Turan Information Agency. Representing a 21.1 per cent YoY increase, it has been attributed to government policies which stimulate local production and see high import duties on cement. In 2017 the country produced 2.954Mta of cement at a value of AZN265.5m (US$156.49m).

Cementos Melón to invest in new capacity

Chile-based Cementos Melón has announced that it will open a new cement facility in Punta Arenas in the first half of 2020. The first stage of construction will see an investment of US$30m, with an expected capacity of 0.5Mta. Bangladesh's MI Cement Factory reported a 33 per cent rise in revenue in FY17-18, compared to the previous financial year, supported by new capacity and market expansion. The company's total revenue reached BDT12.56bn (US$150m) in FY17-18, up from BDT9.44bn in the previous financial year. Cement consumption in Spain up 10% in October

Demand for cement in Spain has risen 10.1 per cent YoY in October, according to the country’s cement association, Oficemen. In the past year, from November 2017 to October 2018, cement demand reached 13.3Mt in Spain – up 1.2Mt when compared with the previous year period. Exports fell by 11.9 per cent in September. Caribbean Cement secures loan to pay US$ debt

Jamaica's Caribbean Cement Co Ltd and its mining subsidiary have secured a five-year JMD3bn (US$23.53m) loan from National Commercial Bank Jamaica to pay back a US dollar debt. The amount will be repaid in Jamaican dollars at a rate of 7.45 per cent per annum.
