Following the closure of Holcim's Cape Foulwind cement plant in Westport, New Zealand, the plant site and its 400ha of land are for sale. LafargeHolcim is to sell its operations in Sri Lanka - a bagging plant, a grinding plant and the island's only integrated facility - as part of its wider divestment strategy, EconomyNext reports. At least three local firms are though to be interested in bidding for Holcim Lanka, which generated 1.7Mt of sales in 2015 with revenues of LKR23.4bn (US$158m).

Malaysia: slow cement growth in 2016

Malaysia is proving to be a challenging market for Lafarge where it is reported to have seen profits fall by 72 per cent in 1Q16 to US$5m. While this has resulted partly from production issues, it represents a significant fall in sales from a year earlier when profits were up at US$17.9m for the 1Q15. Holcim Philippines have released trading figures for 1Q2016, revealing that revenues have increased 17.2 per cent YoY to PHP10.1bn (US$216m), reports InPR. Tanzania: Tanga Cement to double clinker capacity

The Tanga Cement Company Limited (TCCL) has announced plans to raise output to 1.2Mt once the new kiln line is operational at its plant in northeastern Tanzania, East African Business Week reports. Cement production in Vietnam reach 31.4Mt in the first five months of this year, rising 16.1 per cent from a year earlier, the government-run General Statistics Office said. Fauji Cement Company Ltd (Pakistan) has reportedly halted production due to the collapse of the raw material silo at its Jhang Bahtar cement plant in Attock District, Punjab. The 25,000t capacity raw material silo collapsed and also damaged the coal mill building of the plant’s 7200tpd clinker production Line 2, requiring the closure of the line for up to six months until the damage is repaired.
