Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in November 2013 were 6.56Mt, down slightly from the same month of the year before. The Eurocement Group of Russia is ready to invest US$70-80m to upgrade cement production facilities in Belarus, Minister of Architecture and Construction, Anatoly Chernyi, told a press conference. Cement prices in China are expected to increase by 10 and five per cent in 2014 and 2015, respectively, according to research report by HSBC. Pakistani cement exports to Afghanistan dropped to 202,000t in January 2014, the lowest monthly level since July 2013 when they reached 441,412t. Philippine cement sales increased by 5.9 per cent YoY on the back of increased infrastructure activity, the Cement Manufacturers Association of the Philippines (CeMAP) has said. Local cement producers saw sales grow to 19.4Mt from 18.4Mt the year before, according to Ernesto M. Ordoñez, president of CeMAP. Canada is expected to contribute CAD350m (US$313m) to build a 2Mta cement plant in Port-Daniel.
