EUR16m investment in Quinn SRF project

Aventas Group, formerly Quinn Manufacturing Group, is to invest EUR16m in an alternative fuels project at its Quinn Cement plant in Ireland. Aventas said it is to convert the 1.4Mta Ballyconnell plant to use solid recovered fuel (SRF) so it can reduce reliance on more expensive high-quality South African coal. Sephaku Cement began commercial production at its Delmas grinding plant on 6 January 2014 following a successful commissioning phase, Sephaku Holdings has announced. Conch expects strong rise in 2013 profit

Anhui Conch, the leading cement producer in China by market value, said it expects a 50 per cent rise in net profit attributable to shareholders for 2013. Indonesian cement sales increased by 5.6 per cent in 2013, less than half the rate of growth of 14.5 per cent the year before, due to slower demand particularly in outer Java. Cement sales in Saudi Arabia increased by four per cent in 2013 to 55.6Mt compared to 53.5Mt in 2012, a report released by local producer Yamama Cement Co has revealed. However a six per cent YoY decline was recorded in December to 4.79Mt, with all but four cement companies reporting a drop in sales. Vietnam cement sales exceed annual target

Vietnam cement sales climbed by 13.9 per cent YoY in 2013, exceeding the full-year target by 7.5 per cent, according to the Ministry of Construction (MoC). Latest figures by the MoC show that sales reached 61Mt for the year, including 47Mt of domestic dispatches (up 3.4 per cent YoY) and 14Mt of exports (up by 6Mt). Texas Industries, Inc today reported a wider net loss for the quarter ended 30 November 2013 compared to the same period of last year, as a number of non-recurring and short-term factors masked the improvement in both demand and pricing it is experiencing in its markets. US cement industry energy consumption in 2012 decreased by 2.1 per cent against 2011 levels, the recently released annual Labor-Energy Input Survey by the PCA indicates.
