Holcim closes sale of India business

Holcim has closed the sale of its business in India to the Adani Group. The deal includes Holcim’s stake in Ambuja Cement at a share price of INR385 (US$4.82) and in ACC at a share price of INR2300, resulting in cash proceeds for Holcim of US$6.4bn, according to Dow Jones. CBB reports 74% drop in net profit

Chilean cement producer Cementos Bío-Bío (CBB) saw a 15.3 per cent increase in sales to CLP155,089m in the first half of 2022 when compared with the CLP134,538m reported for the 1H21. Gross profits declined 12.2 per cent YoY to CLP43,268m in the 1H from CLP49,286m on the back of higher distribution and administration costs. Cement sales in Saudi Arabia advanced by 10 per cent YoY in August 2022, according to a report by brokerage house Aljazira Capital. Moroccan cement deliveries see 5% dip in August

Cement deliveries in Morocco declined 5.4 per cent to 1,071,990t in August 2022 when compared with August 2021, when 1,132,900t was dispatched, according to the country’s cement association, APC. The data includes shipments by APC members Asment Temara, Ciments de l’Atlas, Ciments du Maroc and LafargeHolcim Maroc. In the first eight months of 2022, shipments reached 8,208,743t, a drop of 7.2 per cent when compared with 8,841,025t in the year-ago period.

US cement demand up 7% in June

Portland and blended cement consumption in the USA and Puerto Rico increased seven per cent to 10.8Mt in June 2022, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). A total of 36.7 per cent of demand originated from the top five cement-consuming states: Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Illinois. Cement consumption in Argentina increased by 13.2 per cent YoY and seven per cent MoM to 1,226,646t in August 2022, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. In August 2021 demand reached 1,083,824t and in July 2022 1,146,900t was sold on the home market.
