Italy: Monselice cement plant to burn SRF

The 0.7Mta capacity Monselice cement plant (Cementizillo group), in Padova, Italy, has received so the authorisation to substitute 50 per cent of its petcoke firing with solid secondary refuse-derived fuel (SRF) Last Monday night, at the city council, more than 100 people were present to support the motion presented by the opposition asking to block the procedure to initiate a debate on the faults of the request. EU reaches agreement on stricter air pollution limits

The European Council and the European Parliament reached a provisional agreement on a directive to reduce emissions of air pollutants on 30 June 2016. The new National Emissions Ceiling Directive (NECD) sets stricter national limits on the emissions of several hazardous pollutants, including SO2, NO x and fine particulates and aims to cut the number of premature deaths from air pollution by around half across member states. Malaysia: Lafarge to pay for dust cleaning

Lafarge Cement Sdn Bhd has agreed to bear the cost of cleaning up the homes of residents in three villages affected by dust accidentally released from one of its plants last Monday as a result of repair works on a blocked processing unit. US environmentalists to set out case against Orcem plant

Environmental activists will today take their case against a proposed Orcem cement plant and marine terminal to the public, according to local media reports. Nigeria: producers encouraged to use tyres as raw material

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has approached local cement producers, encouraging them to use tyres as a raw material for firing kilns. Acting Director General of SON, Dr Paul Angya, said, “We are looking for environmentally-friendly ways of disposing seized tyres. Canada: Lafarge improving environmental impact

Lafarge has completed a CAD20m (US$15.3m) modernisation project at its Exshaw plant in Alberta. The works focussed on improving the plant’s environmental impact but also nearly doubled output from 1.3Mta to 2.2Mta. The retrofit was carried out on the plant’s kiln No. 5, alongside the construction of a new state-of-the-art kiln No. 6.
