Argentine cement market contracts 3.5 per cent in 2014

In December 2014, Argentina’s cement demand fell 10.4 per cent MoM and 2.5 per cent YoY to 892,313t, according to the latest data from AFCP, the Argentine cement association. The country’s cement producers supplied 905,306t of cement, including exports, registering a MoM drop of 10.4 per cent and 2.4 per cent YoY. Cement exports from Pakistan increased 1.9 per cent during first five months (July-November) of the current fiscal year, compared to the corresponding period of last year. Vietnam’s total cement sales are estimated to hit 70Mt in 2014, surpassing the full-year target by 6Mt, the Ministry of Construction said. Cement consumption in Spain rose 2.7 per cent in November to 902,312t, according to the latest data of Oficemen. Peru’s November cement dispatches remained stable MoM at 928,981t, according to Asocem, the country’s cement association. However, YoY figures show a 3.6 per cent rise. Saudi Arabia's cement sales rose 39 per cent YoY to 5.09Mt in November 2014 from 3.65Mt in November 2013, according to statistics published by Saudi cement producer Yamama Cement Co. Vietnam exported about 19Mt of clinker and cement in the first 11 months of this year, surpassing the whole-year target by 26.67 per cent, the Vietnam Building Material Association said. Pakistan’s cement dispatches rose by 11 per cent YoY in November 2014 to 3Mt largely thanks to higher domestic demand and exports from the northern region. The French cement market continues to contract with the country’s cement association, SFIC, released its provisional November 2014 data. Market demand fell 11.8 per cent YoY to 1.347Mt against a 10.6 per cent YoY drop noted the previous month, when domestic cement sales reached 1.726Mt. Pacific Cement Ltd is looking to new export markets in Australasia having been recognised for its efforts at the 2014 Westpac Prime Minister's Exporter of the Year Awards.
