Peru's Asocem reports 47% drop in domestic demand in March

Peru's cement market contracted by 46.8 per cent YoY to 0.488Mt in March 2020, according to the Peruvian cement association, Asocem. Of this total national dispatches accounted for 0.481Mt. In March 2019 domestic cement consumption reached 0.918Mt. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement, including imports, in the US and Puerto Rico in December 2019 increased eight per cent YoY to 6.7Mt, according to newly-released data from the US Geological Survey (USGS). Kazakhstan bans cement imports

Kazakhstan’s Acting Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development has signed an order on the regulation of cement imports. The order introduces a ban on the import on certain types of cement from countries outside the Eurasian Economic Union for a period of six months with effect from 16 April, according to Kazakhstan Newsline.

Tajikistan has significantly increased production of cement this year despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the associated economic recession in the country, according to the Tajik Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and local media reports. National cement demand in Peru advanced 5.3 per cent in February 2020 to 0.935Mt when compared with February 2019, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Uzbekistan’s Portland cement production fell 13 per cent YoY to 551,200t in February 2020, according to the country’s State Statistics Committee. In the first two months of the year, production was down 19.5 per cent to 1.02Mt when compared to the same period last year. The production of Portland cement in 2019 increased 15.9 per cent YoY to 9.68Mt, while imports declined by 6.8 per cent to 3.27Mt.

Cement demand in Spain slipped 0.5 per cent YoY to 1,171,084t in February 2020, according to Oficemen, the country’s cement association.
